The GAAmbler: Cavan to get the job done

April 02, 2016

Terry Hyland during his tenure as Cavan manager

The final weekend of the Allianz Fooball Leagues has arrived and as teams scramble for safety and promotion it must be said that this has been one of the most enjoyable campaigns to date, both in terms of the games played and from the number of bets won.

Looking at the betting this week I fancy Cavan to come good again and they are the NAP this weekend.

After backing Cavan successfully last week to score over 16.5 points, I am again putting my faith in the hope that their free scoring exploits continue and they secure themselves a place in Division 1for the first time in over a decade.

The total is 15.5 which is quite unusual considering Galway aren't renowned for their defensive solidity.

It is priced at an attractive 6/5 compared to Boyles price of 4/5 to score over the same number of points, which makes this bet all the more enticing.

Galway have conceded 93 points so far which is bang in line with the division average of 93. I believe that this winner takes all encounter will entice Galway to go for the win which may leave them slightly more open in their defence.

The bookies have been very slow in adjusting their points total for Cavan considering in their last four games they have kicked 20, 15, 27 and 23 respectively, working out at a very healthy average of just over 21 points per game.

I just can't see how a Galway side that needs a win would be able to stop Cavan scoring 16 points, they are brimming with confidence and will also be playing in front of a massive partisan home support.

My only other bet for this weekend is to back a Tyrone side who have done nothing but bring me joy in regards to winning bets.

I have made four bets throughout the league involving Tyrone and they have done the business for me every single time.

I really like the look of them -1 point at 4/5 with Boylesports. They are coming up against a Fermanagh side that find themselves in a bit of limbo, they would have been cursing Armagh's late goal last week but it would still take a very unlikely turn of events to see them relegated.

This will surely be in the back of their head, and although they will be going out to win the game to the best of their ability it should lower their will to win just slightly in my opinion.

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte was said to be very unhappy in the manner in which Tyrone finished the game and lost a point versus Armagh.

They have been finishing games very poorly throughout the league and I have no doubt that that all week he will have been drilling it into his players that they will need to play right to the end of the game.

Looking at both sides Tyrone have again named a very strong team that especially from 8-15 and they should have enough class to secure at least a two point victory here.

Recommended bets:

  • Cavan over 15.5 points at 6/5

  • Tyrone -1 at 4/5
