DCU will renew their rivalry with UUJ in a mouth-watering Sigerson Cup semi-final after winning by 0-14 to 0-7 at IT Carlow tonight.

After putting six goals past Athlone IT last time out, the 2015 winners were made work harder this around to secure their place at next weekend's finals.

Fresh from their own round 1 defeat of IT Sligo, IT Carlow started brightly and registered first through a Chris Healy effort but the visitors hit back with a brace from Shane Carey (1f).

The home side regained the lead briefly thanks to the lively Chris Conroy before Diarmuid O'Connor landed his second score to send the sides in level at half-time, 0-5 apiece.

The second-half saw DCU take a stranglehold on the game, outscoring their opponents by 0-6 to 0-1 in the third quarter. Midfield substitutes Steven O'Brien and David Mannix were among those on target.

Niall Moyna's side stayed in control for the remainder of the tie with Monaghan star Carey finishing with a personal tally of 0-7.

The reigning champions are now set to meet this year's hosts UUJ in the last four next Friday in a repeat of last season's opener which Moyna's men won by 3-10 to 0-10.

University of Limerick and UCD will face off in the other semi-final following their respective victories over Queen's University and UCC earlier today.
