UCC, UL, UUJ and St Mary's all recorded first-round victories in the Sigerson Cup this afternoon.

Beaten finalists last year, Billy Morgan's UCC side advanced to the last eight by virtue of a 2-13 to 2-8 win over GMIT at the Mardyke, with Kerry's Jordan Kiely and Cork's David Harrington firing the winners' goals in the first half.

Meanwhile, UL defeated IT Tralee by 2-15 to 2-8 at home to claim a quarter-final date with Queens, while Niall McKeever was Man of the Match as UUJ got the better of Garda College - 2-14 to 0-11.

Donegal's Patrick McBrearty kicked 1-6 for Jordanstown, who lost Tyrone's Rory Brennan to a straight red card in the first half. Evan Regan (Mayo) added the second goal and the losers were also reduced to 14 men late on when Brendan Murphy (Carlow) picked up his second yellow.

In the 3pm throw-in, St Mary's sealed their quarter-final ticket with a thrilling 1-11 to 2-6 victory over 2013 winners DIT after extra time at the Tyrone Centre of Excellence.
