HS football team of the week

January 25, 2016

Its our football team of the week.

Tyrone, Meath and Galway enjoyed that winning feeling over the weekend...

1. Thomas Dolan (Galway)

Roscommon were unable to find a way past Dolan as the Tribesmen held on for a narrow one point win in Tuam.

2. Ciaran Mullan (Derry)

Defeat was a bitter pill for Mullan and his Oak Leaf team-mates to swallow.

3. Donal Keogan (Meath)

The Meath captain got his hands on the O'Byrne Cup silverware before calling on his team-mates to use the success as a platform for bigger and better things.

4. Hugh Pat McGeary (Tyrone)

McGeary was one of a number of players that stood out for Mickey Harte's charges as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

5. Ronan Daly (Roscommon)

Despite their defeat, the Rossies will have taken a lot of positives from the FBD League campaign and Daly can be pleased with his individual effort against Galway.

6. Chrissy McKaigue (Derry)

The Oak Leafers finished second best in a titanic tussle against arch rivals Tyrone but McKaigue could hold his head high at the final whistle.

7. Johnny Heaney (Galway)

As Galway supporters turn their attention to Division 2, the form of Heaney, who kicked two points against Roscommon, gives them cause for optimism.

8. Graham Reilly (Meath)

Underlined his importance to the Royal County cause with a six point contribution in the win over Longford.

9. Fiontan O Curraoin (Galway)

With considerable support from Paul Conroy, O Curraoin came out on top in the midfield duel against Roscommon in Tuam.

10. Conor Meyler (Tyrone)

Helped inspire the Red Hands comeback when coming on against Derry and took the 'man-of-the-match' plaudits.

11. Cillian O'Sullivan (Meath)

His return to the Tayto Park sponsored jersey after a two year injury nightmare has been a real plus for Meath as they look ahead to the bigger challenges that lie ahead.

12. Enda Lynn (Derry)

In what is a major blow for Derry's league prospects, Lynn, the best player on the pitch, was stretchered off at the end of a extra-time with a broken ankle.

13. Darren McCurry (Tyrone)

Like Meyler, McCurry came off the bench to exert a major influence on proceedings in the Athletic Grounds.

14. Damien Comer (Galway)

Roscommon's defence struggled to cope with Comer who finished the FBD League final with a personal tally of 2-1.

15. Robbie Smyth (Longford)

No finger of blame could be pointed in the direction of the corner-forward who bagged himself 1-2 in Pairc Tailteann.
