Mayo have been left counting the cost of yesterday's FBD Connacht League defeat to Roscommon.
Defenders Keith Higgins and Kevin Keane are expected to miss the start of the Allianz League after picking up injuries in the 0-11 to 0-13 loss.
All Star and captain Higgins was forced off after only five minutes, with manager Stephen Rochford explaining to the Western People: "He'll have a scan in the early part of this week and we'll see. We're hopeful that it isn't anything season-threatening, but it's very unlikely that we'll see him in the early rounds of the league.
"Kevin has a rotator cuff injury and he'll be something similar time-wise, he'll probably miss some time in the early part of the league.
"Being without any of your established players going into the first round of the league, in two particularly tough opening games away to Cork and at home to the All-Ireland champions (Dublin), is disappointing.
"On today's performance, it obviously upset us to lose Keith so early. We didn't get the kind of start we would have liked. I think we finished out the game in more of the style we want, but we just came up short."
