HS football team of the week

January 11, 2016

Michael Quinn of DCU and John Small of Dublin tussle off the ball during the O'Byrne Cup game.

As teams continue their preparations for the start of the Football Leagues, here's the players that impressed us over the weekend...

1. Matthew McNeice (Armagh)

The Orchard County conceded two goals against Monaghan but it could have been more were it not from some fine saves by their 'keeper.

2. Jonny Cooper (Dublin)

Cooper was one of six regulars that lined out for the All-Ireland champions as they survived a stern examination against the students of DCU.

3. Seanie McDermott (Roscommon)

Roscommon didn't have it all their own way against NUIG but McDermott & Co eked out the win.

4. Colm P Smyth (Longford)

Smyth and his Longford team-mates will renew acquaintances with All-Ireland champions Dublin in the last four of the O'Byrne Cup.

5. Padraig O'Connor (Kerry)

The half-back was one of the few players who impressed for a makeshift Kerry side in their three point loss to Clare.

6. Niall Murray (Cavan)

The Breffni County centre-back picked up the man-of-the-match accolade following their McKenna Cup win over UUJ on Saturday evening.

7. Alan Kyne (Galway)

The Clonbur clubman played his part in the Tribesmen's three point success over Leitrim in Tuam Stadium.

8. Richie Donnelly (Tyrone)

The midfielder was one of the main men as the Red Hand County scored a hard-earned 1-16 to 4-6 win over Derry in Owenbeg.

9. Graham Reilly (Meath)

The talented Reilly lined out in the uncustomary midfield position and notched 1-4 in the Royals' eight-point defeat of Laois.

10. David Tubridy (Clare)

Was introduced as half-time substitute and kicked three points as the Banner County got the better of Kerry to qualify for their first McGrath Cup final since 2011.

11. Mark Ronaldson (Mayo)

New Mayo senior football manager Stephen Rochford continued his winning ways and the experienced Ronaldson led from the front when finding the target with four points against IT Sligo.

12. Tiernan Rossiter (Wexford)

The Model County ended their O'Byrne Cup campaign on a high against IT Carlow and Rossiter was in fine scoring form, delivering six points.

13. Ronan Kennedy (Maynooth)

Maynooth finished with one point to spare over Westmeath and Kennedy top scored for the stutdents with six points, three from open play.

14. Jim McEnaney (Louth)

The Wee County full-forward registered 1-6 as Colin Kelly's charges set up an O'Byrne Cup penultimate stage clash with neighbours Meath.

15. Tomas Corrigan (Fermanagh)

Raised three white flags as Pete McGrath enjoyed a McKenna Cup victory over his native Down in Pairc Esler.
