Gooch far from finished, says O'Sullivan

Colm Cooper replaces Sean O'Sullivan

Four-time All-Ireland winner Sean O'Sullivan says former team mate Eamonn Fitzmaurice faces a tough challenge in trying to figure out what role to play Colm Cooper in this season with Kerry.

Cooper's form for the Kingdom was far from its brilliant best last season, having been held scoreless in September's All-Ireland SFC final defeat to Dublin, and O'Sullivan, who has revelled in success with the Dr Crokes clubman in the past, says that he is not the player he once was.

"Colm probably realises that he isn't the player he was due to age, mileage and the operations," O'Sullivan told the Irish Daily Star.

"But is Colm Cooper finished? Absolutely not. Where is the role for him in the set-up is the next question."

O'Sullivan also feels that Fitzmaurice will have to be patient with the new batch of Kerry stars on the way, having won back-to-back All-Ireland minor titles under former senior boss Jack O'Shea.

"It's fine saying we've won back-to-back titles and the work at development squads is bearing fruit, but it's going to take time to grow, take time to cultivate," said the Cromane native.

"Eamonn (Fitzmaurice) could probably take one or two out of this season's U21 team but those players weren't really shining in the club championship."
