Football All Stars: great minds think alike

Did anyone else notice that the 2015 Opel GAA/GPA Football All Stars team, which was revealed last night, is exactly the same as the one selected by RTE's Sunday Game panel on the night of the All-Ireland final on September 20?

The Sunday Game panel, which comprised Pat Spillane, Kevin McStay, Tomas O Se, Dessie Dolan, Colm O'Rourke, Ciaran Whelan and Joe Brolly, were also spot on with their choice as Footballer of the Year - Dublin's Jack McCaffrey

It begs the question: have the All Stars really become that predictable? Why wait nearly two months when we knew the team already? Surely there could have been at least one wild card in Diarmuid Connolly, Paddy Andrews, Michael Murphy, Sean Quigley or Diarmuid O'Connor?

As Martin Breheny, who has been a long-time member of the All Stars selection committee, writes in the Irish Indepedent today, the scheme has now "become the August-September All Stars, which was never the intention. The scheme would now benefit from a radical overhaul."
