St. Mary's 1-20
Curry 2-11
St. Mary's are celebrating a first Owen B Hunt triumph in 14 years after minor star Kyle Cawley's haul of 1-6 helped them to victory over Curry at Markievicz Park.
Just as in 2001 when Curry were also their final opponents, St. Mary's success was masterminded by Sligo's 2007 Connacht SFC winning manager Tommy Breheny. It was a sweet victory for Mary's who lost the 2012 and 2014 finals - the former to Curry.
The Kent Park outfit never looked back after building up a 1-11 to 0-7 half-time lead. It was 0-2 apiece at the end of the first quarter, but St. Mary's then hit four points in-a-row, including two from teenager Cawley. Adrian and Jason Marren replied with points for the south Sligo men, but a goal from Cawley in the 27th minute and points from Rory Guinan and Mark Breheny left the town side well in control at the break.
St. Mary's extended their lead with three early second half points before Curry were given hope when veteran Sean Davey fisted a 46th minute goal to reduce the deficit to eight, 1-8 to 1-16.
Adrian Marren also raised a green flag from the penalty spot near the end, but the new champions had the final say thanks to a brace of injury-time points from Guinan.
