One of those incredible family stories emerged from Cavan last Sunday when a father and son helped Ballyhaise to championship glory.

Goalkeeper Eamonn Brady and his 18-year-old son David were in the starting line-up as Ballyhaise defeated Arva at Breffni Park to help the club to its first intermediate football title in 47 years.

The game itself saw Eamonn, a three-time SFC winner with his native Mullahoran, locate David, playing at wing forward, with several kick-outs as the Cavan minor star set-up profitable attacks which paid dividends in the 2-13 to 1-14 win.

"That bit of practice we did in the garden down the years probably paid off alright," Eamonn joked when speaking with The Anglo-Celt.

"It's extra special having him on the team, of course it is, he's starting out and I'm finishing my career. And he played well today.

"It was very enjoyable playing the match with him. It's a very special occasion I suppose for the two of us."

The duo will lineout again on November 1st when Ballyhaise represent the Breffni County in the Ulster club IFC against either Doohamlet or Carrickmacross, as the Monaghan IFC final take place this Sunday in Castleblayney (throw-in 3pm).
