Emergency talks are reportedly taking place in Galway hurling tonight amidst rumours of a lack of player support for senior manager Anthony Cunningham.

The Examiner is reporting that, despite leading the Tribesmen to a second All-Ireland SHC final appearance in four years last month, a number of players expressed concern about Cunningham continuing in his role at a 2015 squad meeting last weekend.

Sources say that four players were delegated to inform Cunningham of the conclusions that were reached at the meeting.

It is understood that the players are not happy that Cunningham subsequently received the green light to continue for a fifth year, within 48 hours of being made aware of their concerns.

Galway officials are meeting in the hope of avoiding a repeat episode of what happened in neighbouring Mayo which resulted in joint football managers Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes being forced to resign.

Having originally been appointed to the position in 2012, Cunningham was handed an additional three years 12 months ago with a review to take place after each season.
