Dublin ace James McCarthy is hoping to secure the bragging rights over his county team-mates Diarmuid Connolly and Ger Brennan in this evening's Dublin SFC clash at Parnell Park.

McCarthy will line out alongside Philly McMahon and Dean Rock in the Ballymun colours for the eagerly anticipated clash against holders St Vincent's who will look to Diarmuid Connolly to fire them into the last eight of the competition.

Dublin panelists John Small and Davey Byrne will also be in action for Ballymun while Vincent's can also call on the experience of All-Ireland winners Ger Brennan, Eamonn Fennell and Mossy Quinn.

"It's a big game in Dublin, there will be big interest," McCarthy remarked to the42.ie.

"In a way it's great that that's the game to come back to.

"We've a nice rivalry with Vincent's so it will be a very tight game. There's nice match ups over the pitch here and there.

"It's a bit weird to think it's a last 16 game in the championship. One of us are gone after this."

He added: "I'd be good friends with Diarmuid and Ger for instance. Now I'll be trying to clip the heads off them! That's the way it will be on Saturday.

"We're all good friends so there'll be no bad blood or anything like that."
