No tickets for 'Babs' in Tipp

"Babs" Keating

'Babs' Keating was refused tickets to last month's All-Ireland final by Tipp officials for the first time in 55 years.

According to The Irish Independent, a request for tickets by the 1989 and '91 All-Ireland winning Tipp manager was snubbed because of critical comments he made in a newspaper column following the Premier County's All-Ireland SHC semi-final defeat by Galway.

It is tradition in Tipp that ex-players and former members of management teams receive tickets for the highlight of the hurling calender but county secretary Tim Floyd said he "could not bring himself to supply him with tickets" after the Tipperary legend had been critical of the "extravagance" of spending related to Eamon O'Shea's senior team.

Keating subsequently wrote to the county board to express his disappointment.

Meanwhile, county board officials are also understood not to be happy with comments made by minor manager Liam Cahill in the wake of their All-Ireland final defeat to Galway.

Cahill said: "we need help from our county board in relation to resources and finances."
