Kilkenny's Michael Walsh is the latest name to be linked to the vacant Antrim hurling manager's post.

Former All Star centre forward Ciaran Barr has been tasked with finding a successor for Kevin Ryan, and the Irish News understands that Walsh is in the mix. Walsh coached the Westmeath hurlers this year and it remains to be seen if he would leave them to manage a team that will ply their trade in the Christy Ring Cup in 2016. The distance between his Kilkenny base and the north coast could also be an issue.

The 53-year-old was goalkeeper on the Kilkenny team that won back-to-back All-Ireland titles in 1992 and '93. He went on to manage the Carlow senior and Kilkenny U21 teams as well as the Ireland shinty team, and has also been involved with a number of club sides.

PJ O'Mullan Jnr, who recently stepped down after a successful spell in charge of Loughgiel Shamrocks, and Dunloy manager Gregory O'Kane, are also believed to be in the reckoning.
