Plain clothes gardai will patrol the streets outside Croke Park on Sunday as part of a major clampdown on ticket touts.

Garda bosses have hatched a plan to catch greedy touts who are charging desperate Dublin and Kerry football fans up to €2,500 for a pair of tickets.

It involves undercover officers mingling with the 82,000-strong crowed in the hours before the match.

If caught, touts could face a fine of up to €1,270 and six months in jail. Officers also have the power to seize any tickets they find on suspected touts.

A source told The Irish Daily Star that Gardai have intelligence that several English scalpers have bought tickets for this Sunday's eagerly-anticipated clash and are coming to Dublin to sell them outside GAA headquarters.

"It can be hugely lucrative for the touts," the source said. "It is big business and they move around Britain and Ireland selling tickets for big games."
