John Kiely hopes he can contribute to his native Limerick one day capturing the Liam McCarthy Cup.

Kiely will look to guide Limerick's U21 hurlers to a fifth All-Ireland triumph in the grade later today when they take on Wexford at Semple Stadium (throw-in 7.00pm).

However, he says the overall design is to one day help the Treaty County back to an All-Ireland senior title.

"Behind it all, there is a bigger plan. For me, I've never seen Limerick win an All-Ireland senior title. I'm 43 years of age and the last was in 1973. I was one," Kiely told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"I don't want to depart this world without having seen my county win a senior title. When I got involved in 2010 with the intermediates, it was to contribute whatever I could to improve Limerick hurling.

"Hopefully at some point in the future, I can say that I contributed something to Limerick winning a senior title down the road."
