The PSNI is investigating a sectarian attack on a GAA club in Co. Tyrone.

Members of the Augher St. Macartan's club were shocked to discover the letters 'UVF' scorched across their pitch last week. A flammable substance was daubed over the pitch on Annaghilla Road to spell out the letters - which are an abbreviation of loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Volunteer Force - before being set alight.

In a statement to the Irish News, a police spokeswoman said: "Graffiti was daubed on the pitch at premises on the Annaghilla road, Augher, sometime between 8.30pm on September 1 and 6pm the following day. It you saw anything or can help police with their enquiries, please call."

The club was also the victim of a similar attack in 2009.
