Still no regrets for King Henry

Henry Shefflin maintains he has no regrets from retiring from inter-county hurling even as Kilkenny get set to line out in today's All-Ireland SHC final against Galway.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks legend enjoyed a glorious career with the Cats, winning the Liam McCarthy Cups no less than 10 times, and he says he won't rue his decision over the possibility of earning an 11th should Brian Cody's men topple the Tribesmen.

"I would love to still be there, love to still be competing and challenging myself to get to get the best out of myself. But when I made my decision I knew it was the right decision. I'm completely comfortable with my decision," Shefflin said in the Irish Mail on Sunday.

"I have to regrets. How could I? I had so many great days and played with so many great players. I would love if it was 10 years ago and I had to do it all over again. But it's not."

As for the game itself, Shefflin is predicting a Kilkenny victory and thinks that it could be a player coming in under the radar to help them over the line.

"In the build-up to an All-Ireland, we are talking about Richie and TJ, Joe Canning and Jason Flynn, talking about those players," he said.

"More often in finals, it is an unheralded player who comes in, no major pressure on him, nobody in the media speaking about him during the week. He's sitting at home, relaxed out and he goes out and plays the game of his life - I think there is more scope in the Kilkenny forward division to have someone like that."
