Diarmuid Connolly's bid to play in tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay hit another brick wall in the early hours of the morning when his one-match ban was upheld by the Central Appeals Committee (CAC).

The Dublin star, who also failed to have the suspension overturned when he appeared before the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) on Wednesday night, is now expected to bring his case to the Disputes Resolutions Authority (DRA) later today, which is the final avenue of appeal open to him.

The saga, which has arisen following Connolly's straight red card in the closing stages of last Sunday's drawn encounter with Mayo, is proving to be an unwelcome distraction for the Dubs ahead of the eagerly-awaited replay.
