Former Kildare footballer Glenn Ryan is been heavily tipped as favourite to replace namesake Jason as the Lilywhites senior football manager.

Ryan and current Kerry coach Cian O'Neill are the bookies joint favourites to take over from the Waterford native who stepped down in recent weeks.

A legend within the county, Glenn Ryan would be a popular choice as manager and he has had inter-county management experience in the past as he was in charge of Longford.

A committee has been set up to source candidates for the position and it is expected to take a few weeks before the have a nomination for ratification.

Meanwhile, a hurling selection committee has also been formed to find a successor to Brian Lawlor who stepped down as Kildare senior hurling manager after two years in the role.
