Conor McKenna kicks his first goal for Essendon

Tyrone starlet Conor McKenna's AFL career has got off to a flying start.

The Eglish teenager marked his debut for Essendon by scoring the opening goal with his first touch in their 47-74 defeat to Richmond at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday night. McKenna's AFL Premiership debut was fast-tracked following a series of impressive displays in the Victorian League.

Former Kerry and Sydney Swans star Tadhg Kennelly was full of praise for McKenna, who played in the All-Ireland minor final two years ago.

"It's his attitude, he's just 'Give me, give me, give, give me!" He's got this competitiveness that's just incredible. He loves to score; loves pressure," Kennelly said.

"He has unbelievable belief in his ability - it's not an arrogance, he's just got an incredible hunger and thirst for it. He could be an absolute genuine star."
