Mickey Harte says he is disappointed for Tiernan McCann.
When asked if he was disappointed by the half forward's behaviour when he went to ground theatrically moments before Monaghan's Darren Hughes was shown a straight red card at Croke Park on Sunday, the Tyrone manager stated that he was more disappointed with the reaction to McCann's antics:
"I'm more disappointed in the furore that has happened as a result," the three-times All-Ireland winning manager is quoted in The Irish News. "I've spoke to the young man and he said himself of course you make mistakes and he would react differently if he had to do it again. He's accepted that and I accept that from him.
"But it wasn't the most serious thing that happened in the game on Saturday and I don't see why it should get such overkill attention.
"Is that worse than getting a punch to the back of the head when you've gone down to ground? I ask the question: which is worse?
"Ultimately, if the man who lifted his hand to him hadn't lifted his hand, would there have been a different outcome? Of course there would. Everybody must take responsibility for what happened, not just leave it all on the shoulders of Tiernan McCann."
