Meath senior football team manager Mick O'Dowd was given the green light to continue in the position at the August meeting of the County Committee in Kilmessan.
The management committee had recommended that the Skryne clubman, who had served three years, be given another two with a review to take place after 12 months.
Chairman Conor Tormey put forward the case in favour of the manager, saying that the manager had brought in some new players and a lot of good work has been done with development squads in place.
Paddy Ward (Dunshaughlin) and Gerry Fitzpatrick (Simonstown) suggested that clubs be given the opportunity to submit nominations for the position but former chairman Pat O'Neill and Ratoath delegate Andy Fahy both supported O'Dowd staying in the position.
O'Neill said O'Dowd should be allowed to "continue what he started," adding that Meath were unlucky losers against Tyrone in Omagh.
Fahy remarked that Meath supporters in Omagh that day saw an improved performance with the team showing more spirit. "It would be a retrograde step to take the matter back to the clubs," he opined.
There was no counter proposal to the management committee's recommendation. The next step is for O'Dowd to name his selectors to replace Trevor Giles and Sean Kelly, who stepped down in recent weeks.
Meath senior hurling team manager Martin Ennis will continue in the position with no opposition being put forward at the County Committee meeting in Kilmessan on Monday night.
Coaching officer Eamonn Barry suggested that Ennis must take part in a coaching course as per GAA regulations. There was no opposition to the Athboy man remaining in charge of the team in 2016.
Kevin Dowd will not be continuing as a selector. Chairman Conor Tormey thanked the Dunderry clubman as well as departing football selectors Trevor Giles and Sean Kelly for their contributions.
