Rumours are rife that Michael Murphy will miss Donegal's All-Ireland football qualifier against Galway.

The 2012 All-Ireland winning captain has been carrying a knee injury since the Ulster final defeat by Monaghan, leading to speculation that he won't be fit to face the Tribesmen. On UTV Ireland's 'Friday Night Sport' programme last night, former Donegal attacker Brendan Devenney said Murphy will not line out at Croke Park today and that manager Rory Gallagher was holding him back for a potential All-Ireland quarter-final against Mayo next weekend.

Murphy has been named at full forward on a Donegal team that is notable for the absence of the Karl Lacey due to medial ligament damage.

If, as expected, Murphy misses out, it will be the first time that Donegal have started a championship game without him or Karl Lacey since the 2004 Ulster final.
