Denis Connerton and Philip Kiernan have both been linked with the vacant Longford football manager's job.

Jack Sheedy stepped down after two years in charge last week, and Longford chairman Brendan Gilmore has confirmed that the Dubliner's replacement will come from within the county.

Connerton previously managed the midlanders between 2004 and 2007, during which he guided them to Division 1 of the Allianz League where they recorded a famous victory over Kerry. He has since steered Longford Slashers to three county titles in the space of four years.

Outgoing selector Kiernan was a star player for Longford during the 1980s. A native of Ardagh, he has been involved with the Kilbeggan Shamrocks club for many years and served as a Westmeath selector under Pat Flanagan and Paul Bealin before taking up a similar role with his home county this year.
