Longford will appoint a successor to Jack Sheedy from within the county.

After the Dubliner's two-year term at the helm came to an end last week, chairman Brendan Gilmore confirmed that the search had already begun to bring in a Longford native as boss.

Logistically and financially, it will make sense, according to Gilmore:  "There will obviously be less travelling and the likes that come with all of that," the former councillor is quoted in The Longford Leader.

"There will be names that will be talked about. There are a lot of fellas in Longford capable of running the county team. At the end of the day, it will be the best horse that jumps the ditch.

"We won't be hanging around. We are in Division Three and we want to start the process early. There are a lot of good teams in Division Three and if we can colsolidate ourselves there we can then look at maybe pushing on."
