Fitzmaurice's wasted journey to Cavan

Eamonn Fitzmaurice's journey to Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday proved futile.

The Kerry manager made the long trek to the Cavan venue to watch the Fermanagh v Westmeath All-Ireland qualifier, obviously thinking that the Kingdom would be facing the winners in next Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park.

But Kildare's surprise win over Cork in Thurles means the Lilywhites will provide the quarter-final opposition for the All-Ireland champions instead.

To be fair to Kerry, they didn't leave anything to chance as team trainer Cian O'Neill was in Semple Stadium to run the rule over his native county.
