Five Offaly senior footballers have left for the US following the county's championship exit at the hands of Kildare.

The quintet - Peter Cunningham (Bracknagh), Joseph O'Connor (St. Rynagh's), Cian Donoghue (St Brigid's), Jamie Evans (Gracefield) and Eoin Carroll (Cappincur) - will spend the remainder of the summer playing for clubs in Chicago.

According to the Tullamore Tribune, the players had their sanction forms approved by the county board last week and were big losses to their clubs in last weekend's games in the local championship. If any of them decide to return early, they will be eligible to play for the clubs again from the second week of August.

The Offaly footballers have suffered more than most with summer emigration in the recent past, but at least this year it didn't impact on their championship campaign.
