The GAA is a central part of life for many Irish families.

Be it at club or county level, the playing of Gaelic games is an unbroken tradition passed down through generations. Some families in particular have continuously achieved success at the highest levels.

It is this long-lasting link between family life and the GAA which is celebrated in a brand new exhibition at the GAA Museum launched today by GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail.

The GAA Dynasties exhibition explores the unique accomplishments of some of Gaelic Games' most famous families.

The exhibition, housed on the ground floor of the GAA Museum, displays items from the Cannings of Portumna and Galway, the Kernans of Crossmaglen and Armagh, the Leahy brothers of Boherlahan and the McHughs of Donegal amongst others.

Ó Fearghail said: "It is with great pride that I declare GAA Dynasties open. As a fan of Gaelic games first and foremost, it's a thrill to see so many heroes of our sports celebrated together across codes and generations. The achievements of these families are truly amazing and worthy of this special exhibition. I hope many fans take the time to visit and recognise these remarkable players."

GAA Dynasties will run until May 2016 in the GAA Museum. Also included in the new collection are the medals won by the Larkin family from Kilkenny. These medals were won by grandfather, father and son and date from 1932 to 2003 highlighting a unique record in GAA history.
