A goal for Cork's Conor Lehane against Wexford. INPHO

Jimmy Barry-Murphy was delighted with Cork's first half performance against Wexford.

Beaten by Waterford in the Munster SHC semi-final, the Rebels dominated the opening period to lead by 14 points at the break before withstanding a second half rally by the hosts to win on a 2-22 to 0-20 scoreline. In this morning's All-Ireland qualifier second round draw, Cork were paired with Clare in what is a repeat of the 2013 All-Ireland final, which the Banner won after a replay.

"Wexford Park is always a tough venue to go to. Everyone was saying it was going to be a banana skin for us, but I thought the lads approached the game very well," the Cork manager enthused.

"I thought we were very, very good in the first half and it was a good reaction to the defeat by Waterford.

"Our second half performance was a bit stop-go, but we still got some good scores at the end, which were needed. You also have to take into account the strong breeze that was out there.

"Overall, we won't be getting carried away. We are in the hat for the next round and that is the main thing."
