"It was nothing more than a poke, it was certainly not a kick"

Pete McGrath has confirmed that Fermanagh will appeal the straight red card shown to centre back Ryan McCluskey against Monaghan.

The main turning point in Sunday's Ulster semi-final derby at Breffni Park arrived in the 57th minute when, with three points between the sides and the momentum firmly with the Ernemen, McCluskey was dismissed for pushing his shin towards grounded Monaghan substitute Owen Duffy.

The Fermanagh defender is in danger of missing his side's second-round Qualifier against Antrim unless the controversial red card is rescinded.

"It was just a gesture of frustration on McCluskey's part," McGrath told The Irish Independent. "Certainly, it was a free kick and I would have no problem with a yellow card because it was a bit undisciplined and it was out of frustration.

"It was nothing more than a poke, it was certainly not a kick, no way was it a kick. We will certainly appeal it, do whatever has to be done and we will go wherever we have to go. We will appeal it and make a strong case for it."
