Gillespie and O'Rourke to miss Westmeath clash

Meath players Mickey Newman, Shane O'Rourke, Conor McGill and Conor Gillespie sit out the Leinster SFC quarter final match with Wicklow at Pairc Tailteann

Meath boss Mick O'Dowd is planning without Conor Gillespie and Shane O'Rourke for Sunday week's Leinster SFC semi-final against Westmeath.

The local derby clash will come too soon for the pair who are struggling with knee and finger injuries respectively.

On the plus side, the Royals are set to welcome back Conor McGill and Mickey Newman from injury, while Kevin Reilly and Bryan Menton could be in contention for starting places after making substitute appearances in last Sunday's unimpressive win over Wicklow.

O'Dowd told the Irish Daily Star: "We only did a light session on Tuesday and Kevin would be working on his own stuff in general anyway, but from what I'm aware there's been no adverse reaction to the few minutes he played.

"Bryan was playing with a hard-fitted piece around his joint that he broke. The close we got the (Wicklow) game, the more we felt he would play some role. In terms of Kevin, and I mean this genuinely, it's only close to the day that you know, it's a pretty tough injury he's dealing with."
