John Evans wasn't surprised by the resistance London showed in going down to hot favourites Roscommon.

Speaking to RTE after the Rossies' 1-14 to 0-10 Connacht SFC quarter-final win in Ruislip, the Kerry man said: "The day of coming over to London and pulverising the green jersey is well gone and under [manager] Paul Goggins every guy is enthusiastic.

"The further we went ahead there in the first half, the more they tried, the more they tackled, the more they defended and the more they broke forward.

"So I was very impressed with their enthusiasm, very impressed with their fitness levels, and they missed six or seven chances in the second half.

"We had a few goal chances as well. At the end of the day we were delighted to get a tough game and delighted to win it. London were no pushovers and they can be proud of their effort today."

Looking ahead to his side's semi-final meeting with Sligo on June 20, the Roscommon manager said: "We know full well it was a difficult last few weeks. We had county championship football and the rest and trying to get ourselves right after winning Division 2.

"We had to try and get the handle on the right frame of mind. It was difficult but we're certainly there now.

"We know we're in for a tough, tough game in Sligo in Markievicz Park. It's going to be a cauldron and it's going to be one hell of a game."
