Westmeath manager Michael Ryan believes that Laois will come racing out of the blocks when the sides meet in the Leinster SHC on Sunday.

O'Moore Park hosts this clash which sees Laois needing a win to have a chance of progressing to a Leinster quarterfinal.

The Lake County have recorded two wins from two and are almost certain of a place in the next round, but Ryan would rather top the group and face Offaly at Cusack Park.

However, he admitted to the Westmeath Examiner that gaining a result on Sunday would not be easy, particularly with what is at stake for Laois.

"Laois have a very good record in Portlaoise. They're a very proud hurling county. They were in Spain for a week, training very hard out there," said Ryan.

"They lost a couple of games in the league by only a point or two, so they won't be happy with that, and they're going to come out all guns blazing."
