Offaly is to receive €1 million from Croke Park towards the cost of the development of its new Centre of Excellence in Kilcormac.
The Leinster Council will also contribute €275,000 to the ambitious project, the launch of which took place in the Kilcormac/Killoughey GAA Centre last night. The development is set to cost €1.9 million, and Offaly chiefs remain hopeful of receiving further funding via the Sports Capital Programme.
Last night's launch saw the transfer of the lease on a 21-acre on the outskirts of Kilcormac from Offaly County Council to Offaly GAA. The Offaly county board recently obtained a 999-year lease at an annual cost of €1.
The proposed training facility, which is awaiting planning apporoval, is set to boast four sand-based playing pitches, dressing rooms, meeting rooms and a running track as well as floodlighting and indoor training facilities.
