Crossmaglen began their quest for an 18th Armagh SFC title in 19 years in emphatic fashion at the Athletic Grounds last night.

An early Martin Aherne goal set the black and ambers up for a 4-15 to 1-7 victory over Granemore. Aherne raised a second green flag to give the champions a 2-6 to 0-5 cushion at the break, and it was all over bar the shouting when Jamie Clarke added a third goal early in the second period.

Elsewhere, Stevie McDonnell's championship debut as Killeavy manager proved a happy one as his charges cruised to a 2-13 to 0-8 victory over Carrickcruppen. Ballymacnab were 1-16 to 1-11 winners over Dromintee, while St. Patrick's, Cullyhanna accounted for St. Paul's on a 2-12 to 0-8 scoreline.

There were also first round wins for Annaghmore, Maghery and Pearse Og.
