Mystery of missing Westmeath captain solved

May 07, 2015

Pictured at the launch were from left Kildare's Eamonn Callaghan, Donal Keogan of Meath, Paul McConway of Offaly, John O'Loughlin of Laois, Denis Bastick of Dublin, Kevin Diffley of Longford, Dean Healy of Wicklow, Ciaran Lyng of Wexford, Adrian Reid of Louth and Kieran Nolan of Carlow

A lot of Westmeath football fans have been asking why the county wasnt represented in the photo taken of captains / players at the launch of the Leinster championships yesterday.

Some have even been speculating on social media that the Lake County wasnt invited to the launch (it happened before for an All-Ireland hurling championship launch!) But they neednt worry as manager Tom Cribbin and captain Ger Egan were both in attendance at Farmleigh where, like the managers and captains / players from the other competing 10 counties, they gave interviews to the assembled media. Egan also posed for photographs with the Delaney Cup.

As to why the Tyrrellspass clubman wasnt in the group photo, a Westmeath football source revealed to hoganstand.com: The launch was to be concluded by 12.30, and it went way overtime. Both Tom and Ger had other appointments and couldnt stay around.

The Westmeath manager and captain were in Walsh Island last night for a SF challenge against Offaly which the Lake County won a 4-16 to 0-22 scoreline. Offaly manager Pat Flanagan and captain Paul McConway also made their way to Walsh Island after attending the Leinster championship launch earlier in the day.
