Limerick SHC: winning start for Kilmallock

Beaten All-Ireland club finalists Kilmallock opened the defence of their Limerick SHC crown with a 2-14 to 1-13 victory over Ahane at the weekend.

Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin's charges recovered from going 0-3 to 0-7 behind after 20 minutes to win thanks to goals in either half from Graeme Mulcahy. The captain scored his first late in the first half to ensure the champions of parity, 1-5 to 0-8, at the break.

Elsewhere, goals from David Breen (two) and David Sheppard helped former kingpins Na Piarsaigh to a narrow 3-13 to 2-14 win over Doon. John Fitzgibbon's late point earn Adare a 0-14 apiece draw with Ballybrown, South Liberties edged out Murroe-Boher 2-12 to 1-14, newcomers Bruff defeated Croom 1-13 to 1-10, while Patrickswell registered an emphatic 3-24 to 1-7 victory over Effin in Bruff last evening.
