There were shades of St. Vincent's captain Ger Brennan's acceptance speech after last year's All-Ireland club football final when Derek McGrath declared himself delighted for the "families, partners, boyfriends and girlfriends" of the Waterford players.
The Waterford manager made his comments in an interview with RTE after seeing his young side sweep to victory over Cork in the Allianz Hurling League final at Semple Stadium.
He enthused: "I'm so proud of the lads. For their families, partners, boyfriends and girlfriends. I'm so thrilled for all of them after the effort they put in since the start of the year. It was a long winter."
McGrath's comments come as the GPA prepares to go public in its support for a 'Yes' vote in the forthcoming Marriage Equality Referendum.
