No place for young men…

Derek McGrath has revealed that he hasn't brought his nine-year-old son to a Waterford match since he was on the receiving end of "insensitive" comments from rival fans last year.

And after the Deise romped to their first Allianz Hurling League title since 2007 yesterday on the back of eight straight victories, McGrath joked that he would continue to keep his son away from games.

The winning manager explained: "He left the Kilkenny game last year after 45 minutes, we were 17 points behind, such was the level of - not abuse - but the level of insensitivity. That goes with the territory, but he hasn't been at a match yet this year.

"He can stay away for the rest of the year now! I got to talk to him on the phone so he's delighted at home. It's a bad world out there when it doesn't go well."
