It has been confirmed that the GAA will not be hosting an American football game in 2016.

Boston College and Georgia Tech were set to meet at HQ in August or September of next year.

But, in a statement released this evening, the GAA revealed that the game will not go ahead and that the Croke Park Classic is 'no longer viable for the Association without significant support from government agencies.'

The 2014 Classic between Penn State and University of Central Florida proved to be divisive as it resulted in the All-Ireland semi-final replay between Kerry and Mayo being brought to the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick.
