Ryan at odds to explain collapse

Westmeath manager Michael Ryan admits it is hard to explain what happened in the first half of their defeat to Kerry.

From the fourth minute to the 23rd, Westmeath conceded five goals to Kerry, which left the Midlanders with too much to claw back.

Even though, they scored 3-17, Kerry finished with 5-17 in their Division 2A NHL final. The defeat is a big setback to Westmeath hurling.

Ryan acknowledges this fact and stressed to the Westmeath Examiner that they would have to find out what happened.

"For some reason, we were way off our best," said Ryan. "When we went out on the pitch, I felt we were in a very good place. But we weren't sharp enough in the first 20 minutes.

"They nailed us with those five goals. Their fitness levels were very good and over the 72/73 minutes we have no complaints. It's very disappointing."

He added: We will have to look at the video as a management team to see where it went wrong."
