There was plenty at stake tonight as the pictures became clearer in both the national football and hurling leagues.

In the curtain-raiser at Croke Park, Dublin and Limerick did battle for a place in the NHL semi-finals (5pm), followed by the football meeting of Dublin and Derry - a repeat of last year's NFL final (7pm).

There was also a double-header in Portlaoise: Laois entertained Antrim in the national hurling league Division 1B relegation play-off (5pm) and the O'Moore County then locked horns with neighbours Kildare in a crucial football league Division Two encounter (7pm).

Elsewhere, there were three more football league games tonight (all at 7): in Division Two, promotion-chasing Down and Meath collided at Newry, while Cavan welcomed Westmeath to Breffni Park.

And unbeaten Armagh could clinch promotion from Division Three if they got the better of struggling neighbours Louth at the Athletic Grounds.
