Don't ask Kerry All-Ireland minor winner Rob Wharton if his future lies in gaelic football or rugby - because he doesn't know the answer to that question himself.

The talented 18-year-old added a Leinster Schools Senior Cup medal to his collection when playing a starring role for Cistercian College Roscrea in their historic win over Belvedere at the RDS on Tuesday.

Last September he helped Kerry claim an All-Ireland senior and minor double. It was the Kingdom's first outright victory in the U-18 grade in 20 years.

"Everyone seems to be asking the question: 'Which do you prefer and which are you going to do?'" the Renard clubman told The Irish Daily Star.

"Hopefully I'll keep up both but obviously there'll be a time where I'll have to pick one and to be honest, I don't know the answer to that myself.

"Being honest, and I've said this to literally every person who has asked me that question ... there's always something special about representing your county and winning, but I've spent the majority of six years in school with these lads.

"It's more than just friends at this stage, it's more family. You'd eat together, we all sleep in the same big dorm and as soon as you wake up, you're down chatting with the lads.

Rob has also developed a strong bond with Kerry GAA and he received plenty of messages of support from the Kingdom in advance of the rugby final.

"I got best wishes from Declan O'Sullivan, he tweeted me just saying all the best. It completely caught me by surprise because to be honest, when we're up in Roscrea we're kind of in our own little cocoon.

"We don't really see anything outside and we thought the build-up would only be around Roscrea and Belvedere. But the amount of wishes I was getting, from people like Declan, it just shows you how big the tournament is."
