The display of Darren McCurry and his Tyrone team-mates against Mayo today proved that rumours of the Red Hands demise have been greatly exaggerated.

The Red Hands bounced back from their round one defeat to record a morale boosting 1-11 to 1-7 victory over Mayo in Castlebar and GAA Beo 'Man-of-the-Match' McCurry - who put his name to four points, two from play - was pleased they succeeded in getting their first points on the board.

"This week we were just trying to work on our own performance. I think we did that. We played a good 35 minutes at the start.

"After last week it was disappointing so it was very important to come up here and get the win."

The nippy corner-forward added that Tyrone brough a great level of consistency to their game today.

"I think just the consistency throughout the whole game. We played well in patches last week, we played we for 25 minutes then stepped off the pedal.

"I think we played well there for most of the game there so, as I said, a win was very important coming up to the break.

"Everybody has a responsibility. All these other players have left bar big Sean Cavanagh. I think it's time we stepped up."
