Ladies football mourns Clare Clarke

February 01, 2015

The late Clare Clarke

Ladies football is mourning the sad passing of Clare Clarke, a long-time staff member of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the woman behind the Climb4Clare initiative.

Clare passed away peacefully at her home last night at the age of 35 after a five-year battle with cancer. She was well known throughout the country for her good humour and commitment to the sport and was responsible for introducing the Climb initiative to the Republic of Ireland last year. Climb helps children that have a close family relative who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Since its launch, the Climb4Clare fundraising initiative has received tremendous support from ladies football clubs and county teams across the country who organised fundraising events in order to raise money for this great cause.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Clare's husband, her two children and extended family and friends.
