Clarke brothers on collision course

Down's Marty Clarke

Brothers Marty and John Clarke are set to face each other on a football field for the first time later this year.

Back home following his second stint in Aussie Rules, Marty is expected to revive his GAA career with An Riocht who will meet John's new club St. John's in a Down Division 2 tie in May.

John, who lined out alongside Marty when Down reached the 2010 All-Ireland final, recently transferred to the Drumnaquoile-based club after settling in the area.

"St. John's play An Riocht at An Riocht in Division 2 in the middle of May so that will be an interesting fixture. It'll be a strange one, it'll be hard to do it, but I'll be trying to get the win for St. John's," the elder Clarke sibling told the Irish News.

"It was a 90-minute round trip to training. I did the transfer with a heavy heart because the Kingdom have always been my club and I've had a lot of good times and made a lot of great friends.

"I'll always call myself a Kingdom man, but the move seemed to be the sensible option."
