Cork's Darren McCarthy is hoping to make the most of his chance playing outfield for the county.

The Ballymartle clubman who is on the panel as a goalkeeper, played at corner forward against Cork IT last weekend and top scored with 2-02.

He is keen to impress the management team and scores like that will help him maintain his place in the side.

Speaking to the Southern Star he said: "I'd be happy enough with the way it went and it was great to get a run, but I know there's a long way to go before I can prove myself as an outfield player at the top level.

He added: "To try and keep my place on the panel is the most important thing, and I'd be happy to play in any position if Jimmy and the lads feel I can do a job there."
