December 03, 2014

Marty Morrissey

RTE GAA personality Marty Morrissey has been selected as The Clare Person of the Year for 2015 for his services to sport and to Gaelic games in particular.

The award, which is made annually by the Clare Association Dublin, will be presented to Marty on January 31 next year.

Speaking to www.rte.ie, the popular Kilmurry Ibrickane native said: "I am chuffed and honoured and this came out of the blue and it is really special.

"The only thing I've ever won in my life before this was an Under 14s Champion Medal so The Clare Person of The Year award will be treasured."

In his youth, Marty played hurling with both Ballyea and Clonboy and football with Kilmurry Ibrickane.

He has worked for RTE Sport since 1994 and joins an illustrious list of The Clare Person of the Year winners which includes President Patrick Hillery, concertina player Chris Droney and missionary nun Sr Maura O'Donoghue.
