Carr u-turn

Tommy Carr

Westmeath football manager Tom Cribbin has revealed that Tom Carr will not be involved with the county under-21 side at all.

Cribbin had asked the former Dublin All-Ireland winner to look after the under-21 squad until the New Year when the Kildare native would be more familiar with the senior squad.

However, a number of club delegates were concerned over Carr's role with the under-21s as they feel he has underachieved during his time as manager of the county minors.

And now, Cribbin has confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that Carr will not be involved at all with the squad and that he would be taking full charge of the senior and under-21 squads.

Cribbin has added Gary Connaughton and Pierce Corroon as his senior selectors, while Michael Ennis, David Martin, Frank Mescall and Graham O'Connor will work with the under-21 squad.

The former Offaly manager stated: "There was no agenda. I felt Tom Carr's experience with the minors would help until January, allowing me to get a firm grasp on the senior team.

"Tom Carr never wanted to be under-21 manager and was only going to help in a busy period. I am very happy with the under-21 backroom team, they're all of high calibre."
